Expert on how election campaign developing in Belarus

The Presidential election scheduled for January 26th, 2025 will close the cycle of Belarus’ state-forming events, upon which results the country’s political and managerial system will be created – as stated by the Dean of the Journalism Department at the Belarusian State University, political expert Aleksei Belyaev, in his talk with Alfa Radio

“After Belarus’ Constitution was updated in 2022, the country began the year 2024 with Single Voting Day to elect deputies of all levels. Afterwards, based on the election results, the Belarusian People’s Congress was formed, and its first meeting in a new status and with new powers was held. At present, we are living through the last stage: the election of the President based on the new rules and amendments to the Constitution. After that, the government structure will be fully created,” the expert said.

Mr. Belyaev noted that the Presidential election is a very important stage, “We see that the situation in the country is calm and constructive now – perhaps due to the fact that there are no political madmen in the country, who for some reason call themselves the opposition, but are actually enemies of the state and its people. Therefore, everything is developing smoothly in the system. Belarus cannot be accused of not providing alternative candidates with an opportunity. Well, some of them came forward as candidates but later withdrew from the race as understood that it would be challengeable to collect the required number of signatures. There are no grounds to say that Belarus has somehow limited elections.”

Ridiculously, as noted by the expert, the West has stuck its nose into the elections – despite the openness of Belarus’ Central Election Commission, the invitation of more than 90 observers and the transparent steps informed about in advance in the media and directly to the population. “Everything is transparent with us today, but nevertheless, Western countries have already prepared a statement that they do not recognise any of the candidates and the results of the elections that have not yet taken place. What can we say about this approach to elections? They [the West] have demonstrated their incompetence in holding elections and the absolute absence of the democracy they promote during the elections in Romania and Georgia, but – despite this – they [are meddling in Belarusian elections]. They should first sort out their campaigns and put things in order and only then give estimates to what is developing in Belarus. We do not need observers who come to give instructions and scold us for not having done anything yet. We are ready to welcome everyone who wants to observe the elections in accordance with the Belarusian legislation, and we are ready to provide all the necessary conditions for this,” Mr. Belyaev said.
