Expert on crisis of EU government bodies
Despite the fact that the elections to the European Parliament are still six months away, experts say that there is a government staff crisis in Brussels. World publications are full of news that the position of the European Council president, which is now occupied by to Charles Michel, may be given to Hungarian PM Viktor Orban. The European Council President himself stated in advance that he would step down from his high post. Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR), spoke about the situation that is happening in the European Union in his talk with Alfa Radio.
The expert noted that the situation in the EU economy is extremely deplorable primarily because Brussels obeyed the UK and the US and became involved in a confrontation with Russia, “As a result, European countries received extremely high prices for energy resources, the gradual impoverishment of people, and the bankruptcy of large corporations and banks. According to the latest data, e.g., the number of such enterprises in France has exceeded 51,000. These are those that were bankrupt and closed. Such figures are actually typical for all EU member states. Naturally, 2024 is an election year, and the most important thing here is summing up the results. Now more and more of those who made odious decisions in 2020-2022 against Belarus and Russia will try to evade responsibility, shifting it to someone else.”
According to the BISR analyst, fears that Orban will come to power in the EU are less related to the fact that he will block funding for Ukraine or in some other way influence the EU’s foreign policy, “Most likely, everything here is connected with the fact that behind Orban there are those large corporate forces that are interested in implementing a completely different policy – not oriented towards either the US or the UK – but aimed at the interests of their own, national and large corporations that are connected with Russia. We already see that there are many analytical publications of prominent scientists and experts in France and Germany who openly say that the US deceived Europe, forcing it to confront Russia. All this led to American and British corporations gaining certain shares of the global market and emerging from the 2019-2020 crisis at the expense of the EU. Now this awareness has come, and I think that these corporate elites will bring more and more national leaders to power, including into the EU structures. This news suggests that the old political elite is changing, and these signals are symbolical indicating that Euro-Atlantic politicians will be replaced by groups that will be focused exclusively on the national interests of all of Europe.
