Expert: global militarisation running high today
Today there is an increase in global and regional militarisation by Washington and Brussels, an increase in the offensive capabilities of the NATO bloc, and Belarusian military analyst Igor Chibisov told the sb.by portal why this is being done
“Under the cover of the slogan of fighting the aggressor – Russia and its ally Belarus – the US and NATO are transferring their forces and assets to the eastern flank. More than 16,000 military troops are now involved in Poland and the Baltic States. However, their number within the framework of the rapid reaction forces is planned to be increased to 300,000. The deployment of the NATO grouping in the states of Eastern Europe is an attempt to intimidate Belarus and Russia. They set the task, if necessary, to create a half-million grouping, which – due to mobilisation resources – can be increased several times. Now Poland is actively purchasing the latest Western offensive weapons: a decision has been made to purchase hundreds of battle tanks made in the USA and South Korea. The country is also acquiring a huge number of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, as well as several dozen F-35 5th generation fighters, which are carriers of American tactical nuclear weapons,” the expert noted.
“In other words, NATO is seriously considering the possibility of a conflict with our countries, which is why it is so important to monitor the progress of NATO drills near the external borders. Over the past two years alone, the number of annual drills of the NATO armed forces in Poland and the Baltic States has more than tripled: from 20 to 75. The composition of the participants has also increased: from 34 to 180 thousand people. At the same time, various types of military operations are being practiced, and not only defensive ones. Thus, NATO’s recent manoeuvres – Defender of Europe 2023 – were unprecedented in scope and scale (there has not been anything like this since the collapse of the USSR and the Warsaw Pact). It involved about 44,000 military personnel,” Igor Chibisov continued.
According to the Belarusian military analyst, there is no direct threat from the alliance there yet, but preparations are being made in full. The main deterrent is the return of Russian tactical nuclear weapons to the territory of Belarus. Now NATO and, first of all, our neighbour Poland, will have to reconsider their plans for our country and the Union State. Nuclear weapons are weapons of peace, they will never be used by our state first. Thus, we will be able to maintain security and territorial integrity.
