Expert: continuation of Ukrainian conflict primarily beneficial to the US and its military-industrial complex
The NATO Summit was held in Washington on July 9th-11th, and it was officially dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty in 1949. From 2019 to 2023, Western countries increased arms imports by 94 percent, or almost two-fold compared to the 2014-2018 period. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the United States has become the key supplier of EU weapons. At the same time, the share of American supplies in total global arms exports increased from 34 percent to 42 percent, and it definitely indicates an attempt of the West to make money on exports of military equipment and weapons, including to Ukraine. In his talk with sb.by, military expert Igor Chibisov commented on the trend.
“Since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, the United States has solved the political and economic tasks: it weakened the EU and removed the European competitor. From a military point of view, the United States and its military-industrial complex are successfully using the results of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Russian Armed Forces have carried out the disposal of military equipment and weapons in service in Ukraine, other ex-republics of the USSR, as well as former countries of the socialist camp. Americans literally forced European NATO members to buy weapons and military equipment in the US, and a bet was placed on arms exports. In this way, the United States has ensured an increase in sales of its weapons and military equipment not only at the moment, but also for many years to come. By purchasing American military equipment, the armed forces of NATO member countries become dependent on the United States, including through loans issued by American banks. In addition, it is also necessary to train personnel to operate this equipment, repair and maintain it. Therefore, the escalation of the situation in Ukraine and the continuation of the military conflict are primarily beneficial to the United States and its military-industrial complex,” the expert explained.
Mr. Chibisov added that the US is also rendering military assistance to Israel in the Middle East and the countries of the AUKUS military bloc in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan Island, and other potential rivals of China and the DPRK in the region.
