Expert comments on new period of development of Belarusian statehood and political system
After 2020, we have entered a new period of development of the Belarusian statehood, where the transformation of new political institutions and legislation is underway – as noted by political scientist Yevgeny Krishtapovich
In February 2024, Belarus will host a Single Voting Day, with certain preparations for this large-scale event being already launched. The expert discussed how our state is entering a new electoral cycle, “The process is both interesting and complex. Because in our country, the socio-economic transformation is always followed by the modernisation in the political sphere. This primarily tackles the political system. For a long period after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Belarus was in a state of formation. This was especially true in the 1990s and early 2000s. Therefore, a rather rigid and strong vertical of power was built in our country. But at a certain stage, after 2010, when the socio-economic situation began to stabilise, the era of certain political changes began. Therefore, somewhere in 2020, we entered a new stage in the development of the Belarusian statehood and political system, where the transformation of new political institutions and legislation is underway. Accordingly, certain political campaigns need to be conducted in order to involve the population in this process. Before our eyes, a new vertical or even a new system of government is being formed, where elements of public administration will already be actively supplemented by elements of public policy.”
