Expert: Belarus, Russia showing example of how to defend national interests

Belarus and Russia are the countries that are capable of subjectively defending national interests in their territories – as stated by Dmitry Shvaiba, the Chairman of the Minsk regional organisation of Belkhimprofsoyuz, during the Minsk-Moscow live streaming

Commenting on the difference between the elections in Belarus and the West, the expert stressed that every country should proceed from its national interests in all aspects, “Belarus and Russia are the countries that are capable of subjectively defending national interests in their territories. Everything that was attempted to be promoted as unpopular and obsolete is now becoming virtually advanced and modern in our very specific world. The main difference between us and the West is that our political systems are based on the interests of our own society, although it is not an easy task. There are a lot of challenges and difficulties both domestically and beyond our borders, but the condition is unchanged: it is the ability to conduct a subjective policy on our own land. In this sense, our countries are setting a very good example, and it does not matter at all how others may call us. It does not even have any ideological factor, since no one reacts to it anymore. Clear-headed society already understands everything that is happening.”

At the same time, according to Mr. Shvaiba, the imbalance of elites and society in the West has led to the expected situation, “These are the elections in Lithuania, the collapse of the coalition in Germany, the Moldovan and Georgian events. The US elections top this list. There have been many thoughts for a long time of who can save the world from the United States, and why no colour revolutions are organised there. That’s because these territories have no US embassies. It has become clear that the American people are an entity that can defend itself and say it would rather deal with its internal problems. This situation triggers interesting changes in Western democracies: no one is hiding their intentions there now.”

As noted by the expert, Western democracies managed to maintain a certain attractiveness for hundreds of millions of people for a long time. “Where did European romanticism and the charm of the bourgeoisie come from?… Everything that many people once liked has been levelled. Even the elections in Moldova failed to be elegant for those in power. They started flirting with diasporas – doing that in a dirty way. Moreover, they forgot about the largest Russian diaspora which opinion could play a role. Actually, they forgot just not by providing the ballots in time. In this sense, all the secrets were out,” Mr. Shvaiba stated.
