It is informed that the wild animal moved from Latvia to the Belarusian territory through a barbed fence, while being seriously wounded. Specialists of the Braslav Lakes National Park went to the scene, but – according to the State Border Committee – the attempts to save the elk failed: it died because of a large loss of blood.

As noted by the source, the barrier structures installed by the Latvian side grossly violate environmental legislation and continue to cause damage to the border fauna.

This is the 11th case of animal deaths on the Belarusian-Latvian border since the fence was erected. In total, since September 2021, forty wild animals have died because of the border barriers of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
