Earth’s temperature sets new heat records for nine months in a row
For the first time in history, the global temperature on the planet has been breaking records for nine months in a row, of which it has been approaching the ‘line’ of the Paris Agreement for eight months and exceeding the norm by 1.5 degrees – as stated by the Scientific Supervisor of the Hydrometeorological Research Centre of Russia, Roman Vilfand, RIA Novosti reports
The forecaster noted that February became the ninth record warm month on the planet in a row.
“At the same time, for eight months, since July, the global temperature has exceeded the norm by 1.5 degrees, which is very high,” Roman Vilfand added.
The forecaster stressed that such an excess of temperature on the planet is recorded for the first time and added that it is not worth comparing the weather in the region of residence with global changes, “Winter in the Northern Hemisphere was the warmest for the entire observation period, but residents of European Russia did not feel it, because for Moscow, in particular, the average temperature was below the norm.”
The Paris Climate Agreement was adopted on December 12th, 2015, following the results of the 21st Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Paris. The document was witnessed by 175 countries.
The climate agreement signed in Paris for the first time in history linked the efforts of all world powers to curb climate change. Its goal is to keep global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius of pre-industrial levels and to prevent the global average annual temperature from exceeding two degrees by 2100.
