Culture Ministry: Argentine street named after Republic of Belarus
A street has been named after Belarus in the Argentine city of Berisso – as informed by Olga Yakobson, the Director of the Republican Centre of National Cultures at Belarus’ Culture Ministry
According to Ms. Yakobson, the Belarusian diaspora in Argentina is one of the most active in the world. “Nine Belarusian clubs are operational in this South American country, and people there promote the domestic culture only,” she said. “As a rule, Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians who live abroad join in one club, and everyone considers it to be their own. Meanwhile, in Argentina, Belarusians stand out. They are actively co-operating with our embassy and local authorities. As a result, a joint project – realised in the city of Berisso – led to the creation of the Republic of Belarus Street there.”
