Culture Minister presented a gift from Aleksandr Lukashenko to National Art Museum
On November 10th, Culture Minister Anatoly Markevich presented a gift from the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, to the National Art Museum during the opening of the School of Creativity exhibition, BelTA reports
“On the instructions of the Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko, I had the honourable mission to transfer to this temple of art the beautiful sculpture, entitled Archaeologists – the creation of Giorgio de Chirico – and to say words of gratitude and appreciation for the fact that this composition will find its place in the National Art Museum,” said Anatoly Markevich.
The Minister also noted that this sculpture was presented to the Head of State during one of his trips abroad. “Giorgio de Chirico is an Italian artist who has glorified himself as a talented sculptor and graphic artist. His works were on show in the National Art Museum halls in 2021. Today, thanks to the President of Belarus, the donated sculpture expands the museum’s collection and its visitors will be able to enjoy the beautiful Italian art,” he said.
Director General of the National Art Museum Anna Kononova, in turn, underlined the symbolism of the day chosen for the presentation. “The Archaeologists sculpture is also referred to in another way as ‘Ancient Friends’. It’s no coincidence that today, on World Science Day for Peace and Development, a ceremony is taking place to donate this sculptural composition. After all, the mission of archaeology is to search the truth about the past, to recreate and reconstruct through fragments and details the truth about human existence, world history and the history of each nation,” she said.
“It’s a great honour for the National Art Museum to accept the gift of a work by a famous artist and master of art. This work was the first of the master’s works in the collection and enriched the stock collection of European art. It will be open to visitors in a permanent exhibition,” noted Anna Kononova.
In gratitude, the Director General also conveyed a letter of gratitude from the management and the entire staff of the National Art Museum to Aleksandr Lukashenko for his selfless act.
