COVID survivors enjoy recuperation at Belarusian health resorts
At the moment, 106 Belarusian sanatoriums offer rehabilitation care to patients recovering from COVID-19 – as told by the Director of the Republican Centre for Health Improvement and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Population, Gennady Bolbatovsky, to the First National Channel of Belarusian Radio
According to Mr. Bolbatovsky, rehabilitation and wellness spa treatment are aimed at restoring the functions of patients’ organs and systems. “Considering that COVID-19 consequences are mostly related to respiratory lesions, the health resorts – specialising in treatment of the respiratory system – are engaged in recuperation therapy,” he explained.
At present, 75 out of 106 sanatoriums certified in the Republic help patients in their recovery from the virus. “Relevant programmes have been developed and co-ordinated with the Republican Centre for Health Improvement and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Population, local institutions and health departments. All of them meet the requirements. The duration of programmes varies but the maximum efficiency is ensured after 21 days of staying. However, even two weeks are sometimes enough for a full course of rehabilitation treatment," Mr. Bolbatovsky noted.
Importantly, treatment programmes are aimed not only at restoring the functions of the respiratory system. As informed, natural healing resources are widely applied as well – such as mineral waters and therapeutic mud. Physical activity also matters. “Over the period of nine months, about 40,000 COVID survivors have undergone such treatment,” Mr. Bolbatovsky added.
