Chupris on pardoning participants of 2020 protests: President gave them chance for decent life
People who are serving sentences in protest cases of 2020 apply to the pardon commission, and – in her talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel – the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration, Olga Chupris, commented on whether their documents are considered, and what decisions are made
Olga Chupris said that, in 2021, the President made decisions on pardoning, including with regard to those who had committed protest crimes.
"In 2022, this category accounted for 77 percent of the total number of pardons. We know that there were also some cases of pardons in 2023. What does this mean? Although these persons opposed themselves to the interests of the country when the latter was experiencing a difficult period, the President pardoned them. The President noticed them, gave them a chance for a decent life, for integration into our society. In short, he simply believed them," she added.
