Chinese FM: nuclear war should not be allowed
Commenting on reports that Russia is updating its nuclear strategy, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that a nuclear war should not be waged, all sides must remain calm and exercise restraint, RIA Novosti reports
Mao Ning noted that China has repeatedly stated that nuclear weapons should not be used and nuclear war should not be waged. She recalled that, in January 2022, the leaders of five nuclear-weapon states issued a joint statement on the prevention of nuclear war, in which they declared that such a war could not be won and should not be started.
Mao Ning stressed that, in the current situation, all parties should remain calm and exercise restraint, contribute to defusing the situation through dialogue and consultations to reduce strategic risks.
