Chinese Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan took part in opening ceremony of international standard swimming pool in Minsk

Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan attended the opening ceremony of the international standard swimming pool in Minsk. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, the diplomat congratulated everyone on the successful completion of the facility.

According to the Ambassador, the top leadership of China and Belarus personally took care of the construction of an international standard swimming pool. He recalled that in April 2017, Xi Jinping and Aleksandr Lukashenko jointly presented of the architectural plan of the facility, “Over the past five years, various departments of our countries have worked closely together, more than 1,000 builders worked together, overcoming difficulties, and enabling the project to transform from a blueprint into reality.”

Zhang Wenchuan emphasised Aleksandr Lukashenko’s personal involvement: the President twice issued decrees ensuring the most reliable guarantee for the smooth implementation of the facility.

The diplomat stressed that the pool was built in strict accordance with the standards of the World Aquatics and can host high-level international competitions while also meeting various needs: from professional training to visits of ordinary citizens.

The peculiarity that the Chinese Ambassador draws attention to is the highest quality in design and construction, “Factors such as earthquake resistance, wind resistance, fire safety, ventilation and acoustics systems were fully taken into account.”

In addition, the pool meets all environmental safety requirements and was granted double certification according to international green building standards.

Zhang Wenchuan cited the distinctive cultural features of the new swimming pool as an example, “Red and white – the main colours of the Belarusian ornament – are used, with blue and purple, the colours of the cornflower, the national flower of Belarus, being added to the interiors. Five diamonds on the building facade, connected in a ‘hand in hand’ form, symbolise the eternal prosperity of China-Belarus friendship.
