China warned of undermining regional peace in case of NATO expansion in Asia
NATO advance into the Asia-Pacific region will certainly lead to a deterioration of stability in this territory – as noted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, commenting on the plans of the North Atlantic Alliance to open a representative office in Japan, TASS reports
According to Mao Ning, the continued expansion of NATO to the east will definitely undermine peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. She added that Asia should not become an arena of geopolitical rivalry, and such steps of NATO will contribute to block confrontation. “This should cause increased alertness of the countries of the region," Mao Ning stated.
On May 3rd, the Japanese edition of Nikkei announced an intention of NATO to open a representative office in Japan next year. It will serve as a liaison office through which NATO countries and Japan will be able to consult on various issues.
