The Education Ministry has called for efforts to explore approaches to AI education in primary and secondary schools, emphasising the need to cultivate creativity, scientific interest and digital skills among students. Schools have been asked to establish related curriculums, incorporate AI into routine teaching content and conduct regular evaluations.

Students are expected to gain hands-on experience with AI technologies in their early primary school years. As they progress to senior primary school grades and junior high school, they will focus on understanding and applying these technologies. In senior high school, students will engage in AI project creation and explore cutting-edge AI applications, according to the circular.

An AI section will be added to a national smart education platform. The initiative, according to the Education Ministry, aims to pool quality resources and enhance their accessibility.

Education Minister Huai Jinpeng has likened AI to a ‘gold key’ for the education system, emphasising its potential to shape the future of education while presenting both opportunities and challenges.
