Chengdu Initiative: Belt and Road partner countries inspired global economic growth
2024 Media Co-operation Forum on Belt and Road gathered over 200 foreign delegates from 75 countries, including 190 Chinese and foreign media outlets, in Chengdu on August 28th
The Belt and Road Media Co-operation: Chengdu Initiative has been adopted at the forum. It highlights the media community’s desire to deepen mutually beneficial interaction.
“Since the inception of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), partner countries, by focusing on the main theme of connectivity, have enhanced policy co-ordination, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people ties. They have contributed to global connectivity, built platforms for international economic co-operation, and spurred word economic growth," the document reads.
The Chengdu Initiative notes that BRI is entering a new stage of development, and therefore it is necessary to continue using media co-operation for cultural exchange and mutual learning.
“The media of participating countries should uphold the Silk Road spirit of peace and co-operation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit. They should adhere to the principle of planning together, building together and benefiting together; spread fair, objective, and truthful information; avoid bias, fake news, and misinformation; and strive to promote deeper connectivity,” the text adds.
It is further stated that ‘making full use of multilateral co-operation platforms such as the Belt and Road News Network, the media should further strengthen co-operation, enriching both the content and form of their co-operation, as well as broaden the channels and platforms that host it’. “As we build towards BRI’s next golden decade, the media will work together to pass on and carry forward the spirit of the Silk Road, cement Silk Road friendships, and fulfil the responsibility of contributing to the BRI’s high quality development. The media will help countries around the world to jointly achieve modernisation, to build an open, inclusive and interconnected world for common development, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind,” the document concludes.
Chengdu, the administrative centre of the Sichuan Province, has been called a paradise since ancient times. It is one of the ten ancient capitals of China and an important birthplace of the ancient Shu civilisation. Chengdu has 4,500 years of civilisation history and more than 2,500 years of urban construction history. This city has a unique character, and its rich heritage has created a distinctive combination of a spicy hot ‘hogo’ (Chinese samovar), rapidly developing technologies, and amazing big pandas.
