CEC Chairman revealed which international observers planned to be invited to Belarus’ Presidential election
After his meeting with the President on November 5th, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko reported on which international observers are planned to be invited to the Presidential election in Belarus
In particular, the CEC Chairman noted, “We considered the issue of inviting observers, and we will take into account all possible factors and our international obligations. The Foreign Ministry acts as a co-ordinator in this process.”
According to Mr. Karpenko, the legislation clearly defines the entities that have the right to invite international observers. “These are the President of Belarus, the Belarusian People's Congress, both houses of Parliament, the Government, the Foreign Ministry, and the Central Election Commission. The latter has already sent invitations to the chairmen of the CIS CECs and their delegations. We plan to invite missions from the CIS, the SCO and a number of other international organisations, such as the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, the Organisation of Turkic States, the Non-Aligned Movement, the League of Arab States, and the Pan-African Parliament. The Foreign Ministry and the CEC have been instructed to work out these issues, carefully study the appeals from international structures (if any), and make decisions.”
