Buzin on upcoming election: we see all possible scenarios

On October 23, at the second session of the House of Representatives, MPs set the date for the next election of the President of the Republic of Belarus: January 26th, 2025. Talking to SB TV, Doctor of Military Sciences, Prof. Nikolai Buzin, the Chairman of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, offered his opinion on whether any Western provocations are possible during the election campaign.

Answering the question if the election in Belarus is a target similar to elections in Georgia or Moldova, Prof. Buzin said, “Yes, it is a target. But you have to give credit to the Western strategists as well: they have recognised our strength in that area. They saw that we can operate both in the information space and in the field. We have the means and the money. So I think they are just going to feel us out. Because even their so-called think tanks and so forth say our society has consolidated. We all remember 2020 and know where that road might go. Even people who used to be dissatisfied with the authorities, or thought we lacked something, had 4 years to figure out they had been wrong in many ways. I have no doubt there are some who can’t wait to sell out. Every country, every society has traitors in their ranks: it has always been that way, and it can’t be changed.”

According to the military expert, during this electoral campaign, the external forces are going to try and steer Belarus ‘to the straight and narrow’, but no more than that.

“I think there will be no new military threats for one simple reason: we see all possible problems and scenarios. And, most importantly, we have said a long time ago that we are waiting. We are ready for anything. We’ll see how they act and make decisions based on that. But, to reiterate, we have all the means, the money, the public support, and the conviction that we are prepared to defend Belarus,” emphasised the expert.
