Businesses suffer over $232m damage from riots in Kazakhstan
Representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises in Kazakhstan suffered damage exceeding 100 billion Tenges (over $232m) as a result of the unrest, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during an expanded government meeting – as reported by TASS
“The January events radically changed our lives. Many Kazakhs suffered because of the riots. Small and medium-sized businesses sustained losses. According to the latest data, more than 100 billion Tenges of damage was caused to the business,” he said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also stressed that the new government is faced with the task of stabilising the country’s economy and reducing inflation.
