Bulgarian Parliament to set up temporary commission on firewood shortage
The National Assembly (Parliament) of Bulgaria unanimously voted for creation of a temporary commission on the issue of firewood shortage and high prices, RIA Novosti reports
Lyuben Ivanov, a deputy from the Democratic Bulgaria party, chairs the commission.
Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev acknowledged certain difficulties with firewood on the country's market, but assured it would still be enough for the winter. As for the price, the official noted it is strongly influenced by the widespread concern of citizens buying firewood on the eve of frosts.
In August, the Bulgarian Agriculture Ministry said it would ban exports of timber due to the shortage of firewood, which has doubled in price over the year.
