BSU discussed priority areas of co-operation with UAE
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Belarus Ibrahim Salim Mohammed Al-Musharrah visited the Belarusian State University to discuss proposals for co-operation, sb.by reports with reference to the educational institution’s press service
It is informed that the visit of the guest of honour to BSU was due to the desire to develop partnerships in the field of education and science. With this in view, the prospect of co-operation with one of the newest universities in the UAE — Al Qasimia University in Sharjah – was high on the agenda. “The academic mobility in the student-teacher exchange and the development of international relations were named as priority areas of co-operation,” the source clarified.
The diplomat paid special attention to the issues of training Arab specialists at BSU. “My presence here indicates that, despite the geographical distance between our states, their ties are strong – including through language,” he said. “Language is a unifying force that enables our peoples to maintain relations at a decent level for many years.”
The foreign guest voiced his readiness to assist in organising various forms of interaction related to the development and teaching of the Arabic language, and expressed his intention to deliver a lecture for the International Affairs Faculty students.
BSU Rector Andrei Korol supported the initiative, “In our modern world, language is not just a means of communication, but also a much deeper basis for a person to express their thinking and consciousness. Today, many disciplines, such as artificial intelligence or neural networks, natural sciences and physical subjects, are somehow ‘doomed’ to co-operate with linguistic specialties. We see this on the example of our university and support these interdisciplinary ties.”
It is reported that the parties agreed to work over the voiced proposals in detail in the near future with a view to their further implementation.
The diplomat also visited the International Affairs Faculty: a discussion platform was organised for the students, and they shared views on the international agenda, co-operation between Belarus and the UAE. A film screened later in Arabic enabled young people to learn more of the Islamic cultural heritage, improve their listening and simultaneous translation skills.

BSU and the United Arab Emirates have been co-operating since 2007 in line with an indefinite agreement concluded with the UAE University. A partnership has also been established between the Faculty of Physics of BSU and the Institute of Technological Innovation (Masdar City, Abu Dhabi) in the framework of training UAE citizens in master's degree programmes and additional courses. Since 1996, Arabic has been taught at BSU.
Lecturers and students of BSU and UAE universities regularly participate in scientific and intellectual events of the two countries on a mutual basis. For example, a Belarusian team was placed third in the 2nd International Student Competition in Air Law, which was held on October 21st-23rd, 2024 at the University of Sharjah (UAE).
