British demand new general election, with petition signed by 2 million people
A petition for a new general election in the UK due to dissatisfaction with the Labour government’s policies has been signed by more than two million citizens of the country, RIA Novosti reports
The petition was posted on the parliament’s website by pub owner Michael Westwood. In it, he expressed his displeasure that Labour, led by PM Keir Starmer, had failed to fulfil promises made before the previous election.
According to the Daily Mail, the number of supporters of the petition has been growing by more than 100,000 an hour since American businessman Elon Musk backed the campaign, writing on the social network X that ‘the people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state’.
A YouGov survey, conducted on October 25th, found that Britons believe that incumbent Prime Minister Keir Starmer is doing worse than every head of government before him since 2007, except for to Liz Truss of the Conservative Party.
