Brazilian MFA: we’re against sanctions and arms supplies to Kiev
The Brazilian authorities oppose unilateral sanctions imposed without the approval of the UN Security Council and Brazilian politicians continue to adhere to their position regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine – as stated by Head of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry Mauro Vieira, RIA Novosti reports
At last week’s summit in Vilnius NATO members promised new deliveries of heavy weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the Russian side, such assistance prolongs the conflict and increases the suffering of the civilian population.
“Brazil is committed to its position not to send weapons to the parties to the conflict,” Mauro Vieira said.
According to him, this position remains unchanged. Brazil also opposes unilateral sanctions not approved by the UN Security Council.
“We traditionally oppose unilateral sanctions – we recognise only those approved by the UN Security Council. This is the historical position of Brazilian foreign policy, and we adhere to it in this case as well,” Mauro Vieira commented Western sanctions against Russia.
