Borrell proposed to EU defence ministers to establish joint purchases of weapons for Kiev
The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, presented to the EU defence ministers a plan envisaging urgent support for Ukraine with weapons, RIA Novosti reports
According to Mr. Borrell, the plan was developed jointly with the European External Action Service, the European Defence Agency and the European Commission. He explained that it is primarily necessary to provide Kiev with ammunition from existing stocks, “We need to use what we already have. Secondly, we need more ‘joint purchases’: common purchases of all armies that wanted to do that together in order to provide part of these purchases to Ukraine in mid-term.”
The politician added that the EU has not yet made a final decision on the initiative, and the latter is to be discussed by the European Union’s defence ministers. “This will be a very important council session. We’ll see how the defence ministers will react to my proposal," Mr. Borrell said.
