Borrell: EU is in danger, it cannot depend on Americans’ mood
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell believes that Europe is in danger and cannot depend on the US voters’ point of view every four years, TASS reports
"Europe is in danger, and Europeans must take responsibility," Mr. Borrell said in an interview with the Spanish El País newspaper. "We cannot depend on the mood of the US elections every four years… In recent years, I have sometimes had the feeling of preaching in the desert. It took a war on Ukraine… I want people to start thinking that we should have more defence capability.”
As noted by Mr. Borrell, it is important to explain to the EU citizens the need to increase government spending on defence. He specified that the European ammunition production capacity has been increased by about 40 percent.
As the diplomat added on the eve of his meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on November 11th, the key issues for him were topics related to the situation at the front, where Russia is progressing at the fastest pace since the beginning of the special military operation, as well as the future presidency of Donald Trump in the United States.
