BelAZ produced and sold 963 mining dump trucks in 2023
Sergei Lesin, the Director General of BELAZ JSC – Management Company of BELAZ-HOLDING, reported on his company's work in conditions of international sanctions
As informed by the company’s head, almost a crisis situation developed at BelAZ after unjustified economic sanctions had been imposed, but the facility has managed to preserve its team and production. “This has become possible thanks to partnerships with many scientific organisations, our customers and the companies that supply components for our dump trucks. They did not lose a faith in us and even took risks together with BelAZ while it was experiencing uncertainty related to the supply of key components. That was the first stage, and I think we successfully lived it through. We have completely restored our range by now,” Mr. Lesin said, adding that the challenge made the company stronger.
“We are now implementing innovative projects – dealing with the development of the production of components that replace the ones we used to import from unfriendly countries and the creation of fundamentally new equipment – faster. Two years ago, a 90-tonne dump truck powered by liquefied natural gas was produced, but we have presented a 130-tonne vehicle this year. In 2026, a 220-tonne dump truck consuming liquefied natural gas is planned for production. This means we will equip all our vehicles with the systems able to use this type of more environmentally friendly and economical fuel. All this would have been impossible if we had not worked on partnerships," Mr. Lesin noted.
He added that the company manufactured and sold 963 mining dump trucks in 2023. The vehicles went to 19 countries. “Amazingly, our partners – who are now geographically located in territories where we are not much welcomed – still believe in us, and supplies continue, despite all the restrictions. Business votes for efficiency, not politics. Having our own risks, understanding the risks of our partners, we will continue to work with them until the end, while opening up new markets,” Mr. Lesin stressed.
