Belarusian customs switched to enhanced mode of operation
The Belarusian customs has switched to an enhanced mode of operation, as the congestion of vehicles and the number of goods moved have increased significantly at the border, with details provided by BelTA
As the State Customs Committee of Belarus explained, the traditional increase in the number of cars at the border on the eve of the New Year added to the accumulation of vehicles in queues formed due to EU’s deliberate actions to curb traffic flows.
“At the same time, not only the number of passenger cars and buses crossing the border has increased, but also the number of goods moved, which citizens are in a hurry to buy at sales. The Belarusian customs has switched to an enhanced mode of operation,” the State Customs Committee commented.
The department underlined that Belarusian customs officers process all transport that follows from the adjacent side. “In particular, at the Brest checkpoint, inspectors register up to 800 vehicles per day for entry on average. The waiting time in the green corridor does not exceed half an hour, in the red – no more than 1.5 hours,” the State Customs Committee clarified.
“As for leaving Belarus, the EU countries still do not comply with the norms. About 200 passenger cars are now waiting at this checkpoint for Poland. For several months, the Polish regulatory authorities have not reacted in any way to the existing problem,” the State Customs Committee concluded.
According to the State Border Committee, more than three thousand trucks were waiting to enter the EU countries.
