The Belarusian delegation includes Director General of the National Centre for Intellectual Property Vladimir Ryabovolov and Head of the Centre’s Events and International Co-operation Department Artur Akhramenko, as well as employees of Belarus’ Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other international organisations in Geneva.

A number of meetings of the Belarusian delegation with representatives of the organisation are planned on the sidelines of the WIPO Assembly in order to implement the activities of the memorandum of understanding between the Government of Belarus and WIPO.

Vladimir Ryabovolov made a general statement at the meeting, stressing that intellectual property plays an important role in achieving global sustainable development goals and shaping a better future for everyone.

“Therefore, co-operation with WIPO remains a priority for Belarus. Our country is committed to the development of the innovative component of the national economy through the creation of conditions for creativity and innovation. Both internal and external factors influence the achievement of this goal. Unfortunately, today we continue to face the destructive policies of a number of states, which is manifested by sanctions pressure and attempts to politicise the activities of international organisations,” he accentuated.

Mr. Ryabovolov stated that this, in turn, hinders the full use of the potential of the intellectual property system by applicants who seek to become part of the international scientific, technical and economic community.

“Most importantly, this poses a real threat to the fundamental principles of the functioning of the global intellectual property system. In this context, it is more important than ever to maintain a professional multilateral dialogue based on the principles of openness and equal participation of all parties. This is the only way we can work out a balanced solution when building an effective global intellectual property system. For our part, we confirm our readiness to continue to make every effort to strengthen the WIPO mandate and build a constructive dialogue with all member states of the organisation,” Mr. Ryabovolov.
