Belarus Segodnya Editor-in-Chief on situation on Belarus’ border: result speaks better than any words as tensions are lifted
The result speaks better than any words: the tension on the southern borders has been lifted – as stated by Dmitry Zhuk, the Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House, BelTA reports
"The ancient Chinese treatise – On the Art of War – has a very wise phrase that the highest military art is not to win a hundred battles out of a hundred, but to achieve a result without starting a battle. President Aleksandr Lukashenko has showed us an example of such art," Mr. Zhuk said. “On July 2nd, after the main speech at a solemn meeting, the Head of State informed Belarusians on the situation regarding an exceptional threat that had developed in the southern direction. At the same time, he sent a message to the Ukrainian leadership that Belarusians do not want any aggressive actions or escalation, and that the republic would not participate in it. What do we see today? As a result of certain work and negotiations, the troops have been withdrawn by both Ukrainians and us, as the President has announced during his today’s visit to the 56th anti-aircraft missile regiment in the Luninets District of the Brest Region."
At the same time, Mr. Zhuk drew attention to another important point, “Despite the urgency of the moment, despite the tension, it is possible and necessary to come to an agreement, because the most terrible thing that can happen is a war, a hot conflict that nullifies all achievements of any state. Its prevention is the primary task of the Commander-in-Chief and the President, who – according to Belarus’ Constitution – is the guarantor of security. He is coping with this task 100 or even 200 percent. At the same time, it is also a wonderful example to our neighbours that it is still possible to negotiate.”
"The result speaks better than any words: the tension has been lifted. This is the most important point today,” Mr. Zhuk added. “As for the further development of events, I am convinced that we should not expect any escalation. On the contrary, there will be processes aimed at reducing tension."
