Belarus, Russia discuss co-operation in combating crime
A working meeting with the Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has taken place at the Investigative Committee of Belarus – as reported by its official website
Welcoming his Russian colleagues, the First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Investigative Committee, Oleg Shandarovich, emphasised the trusting and mutually beneficial nature of partnership between the two states’ agencies. Among the key topics on the agenda were pressing issues of criminal investigation, especially extremist and cybercrimes, protection of rights and legitimate interests of victims of criminal acts.
Due to a significant increase in the number of crimes against computer security in our country, the Belarusian side expressed interest in the experience of the newly established department for investigation of cybercrimes and crimes in the field of high technologies in the Russian Investigative Committee.
An agreement was reached on the mutual exchange of scientific, methodological and other materials concerning the specifics of pre-trial criminal proceedings in criminal cases related to extremism, as well as the study of the existing positive experience and practice of investigating crimes committed in the virtual space.
The sides also discussed prospects for further bilateral co-operation within the framework of existing interstate international treaties in the field of combating crime and concluded interdepartmental agreements.
A trilateral meeting of the heads of the investigative committees of Belarus and Russia is also scheduled – featuring representatives of the State Forensic Examination Committee of Belarus.
