Belarus’ revival of Chernobyl lands is a reasonable policy, Myasnikovich believes
The Belarusian leadership’s policy regarding the revival of the Chernobyl lands is very reasonable, the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Mikhail Myasnikovich, told Belarus 1TV channel, BelTA reports
After a Chernobyl nuclear disaster, a quarter of the fertile lands turned into an infected zone. People were evacuated from their homes, while farms stopped agricultural production for millions of people. However, smart Soviet-style managers manage to withstand this challenge.
"The President's tasks on this issue have been formulated – very correctly and competently. Nobody says that it is necessary to go and work on polluted territories. There should be appropriate scientific justifications, conclusions – including those made by physicians and biologists. Based on this, the expansion and development of the territories – that were withdrawn from the economic activity after the accident – are underway," Mr. Myasnikovich noted.
