Belarus’ PM on trade growth with Russia’s Pskov Region: there’re all prerequisites for this

This was stated by Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko during his meeting with Pskov Region Governor Mikhail Vedernikov

At a meeting with the governor of this Russian region, Roman Golovchenko underlined that the Pskov Region is a special region for Belarus ‘because you are our closest neighbour in the truest sense of the word’, “Therefore, we are not just friends, partners, but also good neighbours, and the term ‘good neighbourliness’ is very appropriate in this regard.”

He noted that alongside geographical proximity, the parties are connected by many other points, starting from human, family and cultural ties, so, according to the PM, all this should give appropriate impulses to the development of trade-economic liaisons.

“I know that you have discussed these issues in detail [at a meeting of the working group on co-operation between the Republic of Belarus and the Pskov Region]. I will note some of the issues that I consider the most significant,” Roman Golovchenko underlined, adding that, “If we look at the results, there is a dynamic in trade turnover this year, but it has not yet covered the drawdown that was recorded in 2023. Therefore, I hope that appropriate measures will be taken to compensate it.”

He agreed that there may always be certain fluctuations in mutual trade, but at the same time stressed, “I see no reason why there should not be a steady increase in mutual trade turnover. There are all the prerequisites for this. The action plan for 2024-2026 – signed by you – should be put into operation and executed by all involved bodies and organisations.”
