Belarus’ PM: much has been done over past year to create electric vehicle

Over the past year, much has been done in the country to create an electric vehicle – as noted by Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko during a visit to BelGee JSC, where he got acquainted with the state of affairs in the production, as well as the fulfilment of tasks for the localisation of automobiles

The PM stressed that very serious technical tasks have been set to master the production of the most capacious elements and systems of electric vehicles for the Belarusian electric car.

“These include an inverter, a traction motor, a battery. We also need a hardware and software complex that controls the entire electronics. We are still just approaching it. However, if these elements are launched into mass production and with some other, e.g., imported spare parts, it will be possible to call this electric vehicle domestically-produced. Now we are very close to the stage of pre-production tests,” Mr. Golovchenko explained.

He noted that, in his opinion, over the past year, both Belarusian scientists and industrial workers have achieved much progress in this issue over the past year.

“The main thing now is to prove to ourselves and our people that Belarusian engineers are generally capable of creating a domestic electric car with all the main components of their own design – not taken from someone else and ‘repainted’ under our flags,” Mr. Golovchenko stressed.

During the visit to BelGee, the PM was demonstrated a workshop for the production of plastic bumpers. The project was launched in May, and in September the company completed the products agreed with Geely Corporation. BelGee Director General Gennady Svidersky noted that now we can say that the plastic bumpers for the X50 model are of domestic production.

Mr. Golovchenko also appreciated the Geely Galaxy E8 electric vehicle and conducted a test drive, assessing it as a dynamic model. Moreover, he inspected the latest Geely Atlas and Okavango cars, the EX5 electric car, which is scheduled to be put into production from H2 2025.
