Belarus’ MP: Poland, Lithuania restrict their civil societies from assistance to migrants

Poland and Lithuania are now actually imposing information censorship and restricting the actions of their civil societies to assist migrants – as stated by Vadim Gigin, the Director General of the National Library of Belarus, a deputy of the House of Representatives, at the international conference on countering illegal migration held recently in Minsk

“Back in 2021, during the refugee crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, Poland and Lithuania restricted access to the border to their reporters and representatives of international organisations, and this ban is still in force. At the same time, the fascistization of Belarus’ neighbouring states is increasing. This September, so-called civilian patrols began working in many Polish cities. They searched for hotels, hostels and enterprises where legal and illegal migrants worked, and then beat them. They also beat the persons who employed immigrants from Georgia, Ukraine, Afghanistan and a number of other countries,” Mr. Gigin reported.

The MP stated that the illegal actions of Belarus’ neighbours – primarily, Poland and Lithuania – are contrary to international documents, and they are actually not a response to an unexpected situation, but a consequence and simultaneously a catalyst for the fascistization of European society.

“I would like to quote a pro-Western activist who is currently in exile. In August 2020, she stated, “It is very simple to fight against illegal migrants. To do this, it is just needed to send all illegal migrants who cross the border not in prison, but in a place surrounded by a fence, to give them a loaf of bread, two litres of water, and no more food. When the number of migrants exceeds 10 people per square metre, they will beg for a return." That was proposed by one of the main speakers of the West,” Mr. Gigin noted.
