Belarus’ Forestry Ministry: Iran interested in Belarusian saw products and wood chips
Iran is interested in the supply of Belarusian saw products and wood chips – as informed by the Deputy Forestry Minister, Vladimir Krech, commenting on the results of the Belarusian delegation’s recent visit to the 20th International Iran WOODEX Exhibition
In Tehran, Belarusians not only took part in the opening of the forum and got acquainted with the exposition of woodworking equipment and products, but also held a number of business negotiations.
“We faced an interest of Iranian companies not only in our saw products, but also in wood chips – and that became the main result of our trip,” Mr. Krech said. “Iran is engaged in medium density fibreboard and chipboard production, and low-quality raw materials – which we have in great volumes in Belarus – are suitable for this. True, they are not expensive, so it is important to work well on logistics and optimisation of all costs.”
Mr. Krech added that Iranian companies have already appreciated the quality of Belarusian saw products, which worthily rival those from other exporting countries. During the official visit, the issue of making payments for supplies was finally resolved: Russian Roubles and the Russian payment system will be used.
“No matter how difficult it is, we are now in search and we are finding alternative markets. I am convinced that, as this work develops, we will be able to forget about European sanctions," the official summed up.
According to the Forestry Ministry, its organisations had to look for alternative sales markets last year, but managed to reach the pre-sanctioned volume of exported sawn products by September. At present, the sale of low-quality wood and pellet products is among the most burning tasks. Belarus has enough of them, so the work dealing with the search of sales markets continues.
