Belarus’ ancient rite of spring calling held in Türkiye
An ancient Belarusian rite Gukanne Viasny [the celebration of the spring arrival] was held in the central house of culture of the Turkish city of Gölcük on the picturesque coast of the Marmara Sea, sb.by reports with reference to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The main organisers of the ceremony, which gathered about 100 people, were the society of Belarusians and Russian-speaking compatriots and the Consulate General of Belarus in Istanbul. The programme included workshops, contests, games and dances, as well as the burning of a symbolic effigy. There was a children's culinary fair, and the guests were treated to pancakes and pies.
Consul General of Belarus in Istanbul Aleksei Shved emphasised the unifying role of culture, and the importance of presenting it with dignity in the Year of Quality. The Mayor of Gölcük, Ali Yıldırım Sezer, also attended the ceremony.
