“With the help of an interpreter, the man told the investigator that he and his deceased friend were Somali citizens. The night before, they were travelling through Latvia to a European country, but were detained by Latvian servicemen who took their documents, money and mobile phones. After that, the men were brutally beaten,” the source said.
The State Border Committee added that after that, Latvian security forces ousted the beaten refugee into the Belarusian territory, also throwing the corpse there.
An investigative task force and paramedics worked at the scene.
The Verkhnedvinsk District Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting an inspection on this fact.
“Since the beginning of the year, Belarusian border guards have found 17 dead foreigners on the border with the European Union: eleven on the border with Latvia, and six on the border with Poland,” the State Border Committee reported.
