Argentina healthcare workers on nationwide strike over low wages
The Argentinean Federation of Health Workers’ Associations (FATSA) has announced a nationwide strike, with doctors demanding higher wages, TASS reports
On its X (formerly Twitter) account, the organisation announced that a national strike is being announced in the healthcare sector on February 22nd, “We recognise the financial crisis the sector is experiencing, but we are not ready to accept the fact that entrepreneurs finance themselves at the expense of workers’ low wages,” the text of the publication reads.
FATSA also added that inflation rates ‘have completely undermined the purchasing power of wages across all sectors’. It is noted that attempts to negotiate with the Labour Ministry did not bring the desired results.
According to information published by the Argentine newspaper La Nación, the union’s call covers both public and private health institutions and centres.
