Albania breaks off diplomatic relations with Iran
Albania intends to completely sever diplomatic relations with Iran – as stated by the country's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, TASS reports
According to the PM, the decision will take effect immediately.
"The Council of Ministers has decided in favour of severing diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and [it] comes into force immediately," Mr. Rama’s statement on the government's website reads.
An official notification was sent to the Iranian Embassy stating that all diplomats and employees of the diplomatic mission are required to leave the country within 24 hours.
As the Albanian authorities explained, this decision was guided by cyber-attacks on government computer systems, of which Tirana accused Tehran.
