AFP: Police searching 2024 Paris Olympics headquarters
The Central Office for the Fight against Corruption and Financial and Tax Offenses, as well as the Financial Brigade of the Paris Judicial Police, raided the Organising Committee of the 2024 Olympic Games – as reported by AFP
According to the agency’s source, the searches were carried out as part of two preliminary investigations that were launched in 2017 and 2022 on suspicion of illegal seizure of interests, bias and embezzlement of public funds. The National Financial Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that both cases concern contracts that were concluded in the framework of the organisation of the Olympic Games.
Reuters also reported searches at the headquarters of SOLIDEO, the body responsible for providing the Olympic and Paralympic infrastructure. Employees of the organisations are reportedly co-operating with investigators.
In April 2021, two reports from the French Anti-Corruption Agency on the organisation of the Olympics pointed to ‘integrity risks’ and ‘conflicts of interest’ damaging the Games’ image. Situations of ‘potential uncontrolled conflicts of interest’ have been reported.
