What Lukashenko warned OSCE about in 2017: mother Europe at crossroads of problems

"I think it is a great merit of Belarus, the Belarusian Parliament, that we hosted a session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. It was a sort of a breakthrough in international relations in the West. As far as I remember, about 60 countries participated, and that was a serious presentation,” statesman Vladimir Andreichenko, who chaired the House of Representatives in 2008-2024, said. “Of course, they saw the real Belarus. I cannot say that their double standards with regard to Belarus somehow changed, but at least they saw that it was a hospitable, clean and beautiful country which was developing, and which citizens supported the President."
Mr. Andreichenko also drew attention to the Belarusian leader’s expressive programme report at the OSCE PA session: Aleksandr Lukashenko then proposed to restart the Helsinki process. “Our mother Europe has found itself at the crossroads of problems,” he said at a plenary session dedicated to the grand opening of the 26th annual session. The Head of Sate stressed that, since the end of the cold war, the European security architecture had not experienced a similar serious systemic crisis.
The President suggested starting a discussion within OSCE on the need to organise a new Helsinki process. He also called Belarus a venue to resolve pressing issues. “Taking into account our experience, if necessary and with your approval, we are ready to become a launching pad for the start of this process," Aleksandr Lukashenko assured.
Even then, the President of Belarus saw where the continent was heading to, so he proposed Helsinki-2. On that day, parliamentarians from Britain, Finland, France, Canada and Ukraine sought to communicate with the Belarusian leader. In those years, European politicians could still say what they really thought. However, while they were talking about peace in Minsk, Ukraine continued to be pumped with weapons, and the continent was being dragged into another armed conflict.
