Sergeyenko: over 30 years, Belarus not just preserved its potential, but made it stronger

Over the past three decades, Belarus has not only preserved its potential, but also strengthened it – as stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Igor Sergeyenko, at a meeting with Postavy residents. Among the issues discussed were the socio-economic achievements of sovereign Belarus over the past years, the current socio-political situation, and the activities of the Belarusian Parliament.

“Over the years of the Presidential republic, we have managed not only to preserve our potential, but also to modernise industrial and agricultural enterprises. Belarus accounts for about 80 percent of all tractors produced in the CIS, 50 percent of chemical fibres, and a fifth of refrigerators and freezers. The republic occupies one of the leading positions in the world in the production of heavy-duty vehicles, and the industrial complex as a whole generates 80 percent of the country's exports," Mr. Sergeyenko said. “Could we imagine 10-20 years ago that Belarus would be among the agricultural production leaders. In fact, it is now one of the top five exporting countries of dairy products and among the top 15 leading exporters of meat products. Belarus' self-sufficiency in many types of food exceeds 100 percent, and in milk – almost 270 percent. Domestic products are supplied to 100+ countries.”

The Chairman of the House of Representatives added that the development of the economy makes it possible to support the social sphere and pensioners, allocate significant funds to healthcare, education, and culture. As recalled by Mr. Sergeyenko, Belarus is a socially oriented state that takes care of a particular person.

“The state has taken specific measures, and Belarus is now among the top thirty countries in the world in terms of educational performance. Free education is a norm in the republic. In addition, free medical care is guaranteed in Belarus, and the country is one of the top twenty states in terms of transplantation. Over thirty years of the Presidential republic, hundreds of different types of healthcare facilities have been built: the Republican Scientific-Practical Centre, buildings of district and regional hospitals, paramedic and obstetric centres. Accommodation related issues are being resolved as well," he noted.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives also noted that 2025 had been declared the Year of Improvement (in line with Presidential Decree No. 1). In this regard, Mr. Sergeyenko noted that much work is ahead of Belarusians. “These are not only the measures that will be taken by the state to allocate funds to restore order, improve roads and territories. We have a lot of work to do, including with the participation of residents, to make our life more interesting and eventful. Actually, there are already plenty of examples of well-maintained and landscaped settlements, including through the implementation of civic initiatives," he stated.
