The head of the Polish defence department believes that there’s not a big number of Poles who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“These are small numbers. This is an artificially created question. There is no such problem,” said Mariusz Blaszczak.

Answering the question of whether the Poles fighting in Ukraine will be punished, as provided for by the Polish Criminal Code, or whether the Polish government will adopt an amnesty law, the head of the Polish defence department said that ‘this is not a problem’.

Moreover, Mariusz Blaszczak said that at present, in his opinion, it is more important to think about strengthening the Polish army and supporting Kiev.

“Everything indicates that the war will continue for a long time,” he stressed, adding that the outcome of the conflict will depend on Western support for Ukraine.

The news agency drew attention to the fact that the Polish Criminal Code envisages punishment for serving in a foreign army without government permission in the form of imprisonment for up to five years. Permits are issued by the Polish Defence Ministry.
