Volfovich on ensuring security in Belarus: main task is to make people feel calm
The most important task for all law enforcement agencies of the country is to make people feel calm, State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich told reporters, commenting on the results of the Security Council meeting with the Head of State’s participation
Answering a question from reporters about ensuring security during the upcoming Presidential election, Aleksandr Volfovich emphasised that election is only a certain segment of the life of the state, and the topic of security should be considered more broadly. “Whether it is an election or some other political event, a parade or some other significant event in the country, this is, of course, the task of elements of the state’s military organisation, primarily, those structures that are responsible for this: the police, the State Security Committee (KGB), the border guard service, and some military units of the Armed Forces, which are part of the state system for responding to acts of terrorism, the activities of terrorist organisations and illegal terrorist formations,” he explained.
The State Secretary of the Security Council recalled that the country had recently completed an inspection (instructed by the President) of the forces and means included in the state system for responding to acts of terrorism, “We practised the elements of suppressing mass riots, regardless of whether it was an election or another important event. The most important task is to make people feel calm, whether it is an election or some kind of holiday.”
