US to build first NPP in Poland
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki made a statement that the American companies, Westinghouse and Bechtel, will build Poland's first nuclear power plant, TASS reports
Mr. Morawiecki shared this information during the ceremony of signing the agreement for the execution of project work. “Westinghouse and Bechtel will work together with Polish subcontractors to create Poland's first ultra-modern and ultra-safe nuclear power plant," he said. “I am glad that we have managed to reach this day through difficult negotiations. We are beginning a new era of Polish-American relations, a new era of co-operation and a new era in the field of Polish economy.”
In November 2022, the Polish authorities approved a decree on the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant. According to the document, three reactors worth $20bn will be built and launched on the Baltic Sea coast.
The Polish Government expects to build six nuclear power units within 20 years. Starting from 2033, power units with a capacity of 1-1.6 GW will be put into operation every two to three years, generating 6-9GW that will not emit harmful substances into the atmosphere.
