NAS delegation took part in World Science Forum in Budapest

The delegation of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus, led by Chief Scientific Secretary Vasily Gursky, has taken part in the forum in Budapest, sb.by reports with a link to the NAS website

Members of the delegation held talks with the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Tamás Freund, representatives of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, the Polish Academy of Sciences, etc.

The delegation participated in the plenary session on Trust in Science and the thematic session on Interconnection and Regulation of Rapidly Developing Technologies. On the side-lines of the forum, talks were held with such scientific figures as President of the International Science Council (ISC) Peter Gluckman, President of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Quarraisha Abdool Karim, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Sudip Parikh, and Executive Director of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) Peggy Oti-Boateng.

In addition, the NAS delegation had talks with the President of the European Academies’ Scientific Advisory Council (EASAC), Executive Director of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), President of the International Network for Government Scientific Advice (INGSA), Director General of the International Research Centre of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAC), and others. The delegation also met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Hungary Uladzimir Ulakhovich and discussed the development of Belarusian-Hungarian sci-tech co-operation.

The World Science Forum 2024 was held in Budapest (Hungary) under the motto: A Science and Policy Interface and Dialogue at the Time of Global Transformations. It brought together scientists from 122 countries, as well as representatives of international scientific organisations. This year, the world famous event addressed four thematic areas: building trust in science at the intersection of science, policy and society; risk assessment in policy-making; building from the top of the future; and co0operation and co0ordination in science. At the end of the proceedings, the forum’s final declaration was adopted at the Hungarian Parliament building.
