UK increased defence spending by 14% in past decade
According to The Times, UK defence expenditures increased by 14 percent between 2012 and 2022, but London’s geopolitical rivals have further increased the level of funding for their military sector, TASS reports
According to the newspaper, defence spending by Iran, China and Russia rose by 57 percent, 60 percent and 34 percent respectively over the period. The newspaper noted that in October 2024, the UK Finance Ministry approved £56.9bn ($71.3bn) for 2025 defence spending, which is half of Russia’s figures.
UK PM Keir Starmer earlier said that London intends to increase defence spending to 2.5 percent of GDP. However, he did not say by when this goal would be achieved.
