Turchin: we expect to double attendance of Mound of Glory Memorial

The Minsk Regional Executive Committee expects to increase the attendance of the Mound of Glory due to the reconstruction of the memorial complex and the construction of a museum complex on its territory, Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee Aleksandr Turchin told reporters after the event with the Head of State’s participation

According to the governor, about 100,000 people visit the memorial complex every year.

“This is one of the country’s most important symbols, a symbol of its liberation. The ideology of the Mound of Glory as a monument dedicated to Belarus’ liberation cannot change. The question is how to complement this majestic monument in order to attract even more people here. It is necessary to attract increasing number of visitors to this memorial site so that they remember the events that took place on Belarusian land 80 years ago,” he added.

Aleksandr Turchin called the Khatyn Memorial an illustrative example in this regard, the attendance of which doubled after the reconstruction and opening of the museum and exceeded half a million visitors last year.

“We hope and set such goals for ourselves that it is necessary to least double the attendance of the Mound of Glory Memorial,” the Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee said.

For this purpose, it is proposed, in particular, to expand and diversify the exposition of military equipment from the Great Patriotic War and to build a museum of the history of the Armed Forces of Belarus on the territory of the memorial. This is one of the ‘magnets’ enabling us to increase the influx of people to the Mound of Glory.
