Terminal for Belarusian cargo to be built on the Kola Bay shore
At a recent meeting of the delegation of the Murmansk Region with the President of Belarus, an agreement on transhipment of export cargo through Murmansk was reached
“In the current conditions, the strategic theme is the reorientation of part of the Belarusian export cargo, primarily potash fertilisers, to your ports. This refers not only to potash fertilisers. Fundamental decisions have been made, and we will work along this avenue. The northern direction will significantly complement our co-operation in the field of logistics, taking into account St. Petersburg," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed at that meeting.
Upon his return from Belarus, the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrei Chibis, held an operational meeting of the regional government to sum up the results of his trip. According to the Nord-News.ru information agency, he said then, “For this purpose, a new terminal is planned to be built on the western shore of the Kola Bay. It will be able to tranship 5-7m tonnes of cargo annually.”
Moreover, during his meeting with the Belarusian Prime Minister, Roman Golovchenko, the need to intensify bilateral co-operation in order to increase trade turnover was discussed, and supplies of municipal and passenger vehicles were named as one of the solutions.
As reported by the news agency, five new Belkommunmash trolleybuses will start operating Murmansk’s streets by late 2022 following an agreement signed by the Russian delegation in Belarus. The first batch arrived in the city last December. “Belarusian trolleybuses have proven themselves well on our roads,” the Head of Murmansk’s Administration, Yuri Serdechkin, commented.
